The Light of THe World

A candle and the light it produces is symbolic of both God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son. Light is also to be a distinct characteristic of all those who claim Christ as Lord.

The Apostle John wrote: "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all." (I John 1:5)

Jesus claimed the same quality for Himself when He stated: "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but have the light of life." (John 8:12)"

Those who have chosen to become followers of Christ are called to share this "light" with others. Jesus said: "You are the light of the world … Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:14-16)
